Drinks and a Movie in Brooklyn

On a Friday night down Bogart Street it was isolated but curiously alive. Living in Bushwick the past year I can sum it up in one memory - walking by the projects to my left and then an art exhibit on my right. But my experience has also included secret thrift shops and local eateries varying from vegan to Pakistani style burgers. A big plus for foodies like us.

Syndicated gives Bushwick an extra kick. With an American inspired food menu drinks are also named after our old cine classics. When you step inside it almost feels like a warehouse turned inside out. Tables planted along the walls and a welcoming bar smacked in the middle, you can't help but feel you found your new spot. There are also two projectors showcasing either an old flick or a new episode of your forgotten favorite show.

The three cocktails that took my interest were the Facehugger (tequila, dry curaçao, jalapeño, pineapple and lime) Easy Rider (gin, cappelletti, honey, mint with cucumber and lemon) and Pretty in Pink II (vodka, strawberry rooibos syrup, lemon). Cocktails were made by bartender, Christina Celic, and her inspiration is no guess. Other cocktails on the menu include Waking Divine (absinthe rinse, whiskey, dry vermouth and honey), Blade Rummer (rum barbancourt, ramazzoti, with pineapple and grenadine) and last, A Sidecar named Desire (mescal, dry curaçao, maraschino liqueur and lemon).

When I asked Christina her recommendation, she suggested,

"It's hard to chose a favorite drink because I love them all and depending on my mood I might prefer one to another but generally it would be the Waking Divine. I love whiskey based drinks. It's super simple but the addition of an absinthe rinsed glass along with a touch of honey syrup adds a great deal of complexity while still maintaining an easy sipping cocktail."

So although you may be walking around your first time and think you're in some industrial hood, take a closer look. Step inside, grab a cocktail, head back and enjoy the film.
