A snow day in New York City is like a surprise recess from the normal hustle and bustle. I still get the same excitement. This March my best friend and I visited Oslo for travel and it snowed almost everyday. Yes, it was cold but the Norwegians know how to stay comfortable! Good food and drinks, music, friendly faces, and that comforting smell that someone is smoking meat made my experience perfect.
A quick nature break from the city is the hike in Vettakollen. Take the T-Bane going to Frognerseteren, get off the stop Vettakollen, and you'll notice the streets start to curve up. The train ride is quick and the hike isn't too difficult, but the big plus is the natural beauty and panoramic views.
If you're looking for more fun in the snow, don't miss their Toboggan snow sledding. Take the same T-Bane and get off the last stop. The train will leave you exactly where you need to start. There are sled rentals that don't break over 25 USD and slide down a ten minute bliss. At the end of the run you land at a train stop which takes you back up to the top. One tip, dress appropriately.
The food is amazing in Oslo! So many great choices and everything is prepared perfectly! Our first day we stopped by Mathallen Oslo which is a big food hall serving a variety of cuisines and can shop for home. I've never had Hungarian food and it was a treat to try it in Norway.
My tip for other great bites is to check out Rorbua and Tavern'na for more traditional Norwegian!
Our trip only lasted a few days but we made the most of it like most travelers. Two neighborhoods that peaked my interest were Grünerløkka, a hip neighborhood with great street art and Grønland that felt like Oslo's melting pot.
If you're wondering to travel to Norway, go! It doesn't matter which time of the year. It will be worth it!
My next vacation to Norway will be taking a tour among their famous fjords.
